Hug Often, Hug Tight

Aunt Gracie is in town, and one thing you know for sure a hugging frenzy is in your future. Your sweet auntie is a hugger extraordinaire and the picture of joyful peace and calm. No jangled nerves for her. Is it really hugging that makes the difference? you ask yourself. In all probability it is.

A study at the University of North Carolina concluded that hugging increases a bonding hormone called oxytocin, while decreasing blood pressure and levels of the stress hormone cortisol in women. Hand-holding was shown to have a similar effect. And guess what else? Both are free.

God created you with an undeniable need to be touched, to feel the physical chemistry of  connectedness between yourself and another person. Give and receive as many hugs as possible from your friends and loved ones, especially your dear aunt Gracie. Fairly soon, word will get out that you're a hugger, and other huggers will begin to seek you out. Good-bye, stress.
